One dead after 52-seat bus crashes into car on bridge

Multiple passengers were feared injured as the driver was “severely trapped” when the horror unfolded on Cleddau Bridge in Pembrokeshire this afternoon.

Dyfed-Powys Police tonight confirmed the incident was “now a fatal one”.

A force spokeswoman said: “The collision involved a car and a coach. Sadly, one person has died.

“Next of kin have been advised and are being supported by officers.”

She told how one person was hospitalised in a critical condition while “a number of passengers” were taken to hospital with “various levels of injuries”.

Photos this evening showed damage to the coach, which appeared to be operated by a private firm.

The Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew RT Davies tonight posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “I’m deeply saddened to learn that somebody tragically lost their life in today’s accident on the Cleddau Bridge.

“My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to their family, friends and loved ones.”

The fire service, ambulance crews and cops rushed to the scene around 2.15pm.
