According to genealogy company Ancestry, Taylor and Emily are sixth cousins, three times removed, tracing their ancestry back to the same 17th-century English immigrant who settled in Connecticut.
The common ancestor, identified as Taylor’s 9th great-grandfather and Emily’s 6th great-grandfather, rooted the family connection.
Taylor’s lineage remained in Connecticut for six generations before relocating to northwestern Pennsylvania and intertwining with the Swift family tree.
While Taylor Swift stands as one of the biggest stars globally, Emily Dickinson is celebrated for her literary prowess, having composed nearly 1,800 poems before her death in 1886, making her a significant figure in American literature.
It remains uncertain if Taylor is aware of this familial link, but there are hints suggesting she might be. In 2022, during her acceptance speech for the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International, Taylor referenced Emily Dickinson.
