Doritos Cuts Ties with Transgender Influencer Amid Boycott Demands

Doritos has severed ties with Spanish transgender influencer Samantha Hudson following the resurfacing of controversial tweets, prompting calls for a boycott reminiscent of a previous incident involving Bud Light.

The 24-year-old, featured in a recent Doritos ad in Spain, faced criticism over an alleged 2015 social media post with inappropriate content towards a 12-year-old when she was 15. Critics, including right-leaning users, also denounced the partnership with a trans woman.

The controversy escalated as screenshots of the offensive post circulated online, leading to a loss of nearly 30,000 followers on Hudson’s Instagram account, where the original Doritos ad was deleted after the brand terminated their deal.

The digital spot’s viral run prompted the hashtag #BoycottDoritos. Doritos Spain responded by terminating their collaboration with Hudson, claiming ignorance of her past tweets when initially partnering with her.

In a statement, Doritos Spain condemned any words or actions promoting violence or sexism. Hudson, after gaining fame, reportedly apologized for the unearthed posts, expressing a lack of recollection and attributing them to past engagement in dark humor.

This incident draws parallels with a similar controversy involving Anheuser Busch (Bud Light) in the United States last year when they faced a boycott after naming transgender TikToker Dylan Mulvaney as an ambassador.

Unlike the protracted situation with Bud Light, Doritos swiftly addressed the issue, signaling a strategic move to avoid potential fallout similar to their beverage counterpart.
