Boeing Whistleblower Dies by Suicide

Last week, John Barnett, a whistleblower engaged in a legal battle against Boeing, tragically passed away in Charleston, SC, where he was found in his truck in a hotel parking lot with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the police.

Barnett, a former quality manager at Boeing with 32 years of service, was actively pursuing a whistleblower lawsuit against the company, alleging retaliation for exposing what he described as compromised safety practices on the assembly lines of Boeing planes.

His legal battle gained attention, particularly in light of recent incidents involving Boeing aircraft, such as the mid-air door detachment from a 737 flight in January.

In a recent appearance, Barnett reiterated his concerns about safety issues at Boeing, drawing attention to the company’s alleged negligence in addressing these issues over the years.

He expressed disbelief at the rapid approval for the Boeing 737 Max aircraft to resume flights, following the alarming incident involving an Alaska Airlines flight.

Tragically, Barnett’s passing occurred while he was actively participating in depositions for his lawsuit against Boeing.

His attorney, Brian Knowles, has cast doubt on the reported circumstances of his death, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.

Boeing, in response to Barnett’s death, released a statement expressing sadness and offering condolences, acknowledging the ongoing legal dispute with their former employee.
