Rapper Bo$$ Passes Away At 54

Bo$$, the groundbreaking first female rapper signed to Def Jam, has passed away.

Rapper Bun B shared this sorrowful news on Monday evening, honoring Boss

and expressed his condolences, referring to her as his “big sis” and recognizing her as one of the finest female MCs and a dear friend.

Bun’s announcement stirred a significant reaction in the hip-hop community, with figures like Jermaine Dupri, Jadakiss, 9th Wonder, Ed Lover, Lloyd Banks, Slim Thug, and many others paying tribute to the pioneering MC.

DJ Premier also added his voice, praising Boss for breaking ground for women in gangsta rap and bid farewell with a heartfelt “Rest in Detroit Queen.”

Bo$$, originally from Detroit, moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating high school, where she immersed herself in the local music scene and caught the attention of DJ Quik’s associate.

As the narrative goes, Russell Simmons was the one to sign her to Def Jam, and in 1993, she released her first (and only) studio album, “Born Gangstaz.”

She achieved success on the charts, with “Deeper” making waves on the Hot 100. The circumstances surrounding her death and an official cause remain undisclosed, but Bo$$ had been battling renal disease since her diagnosis in 2011.

Following a stroke and seizure in 2017, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated to support her “costly” care, including the potential need for a kidney transplant. Bo$$, a musical pioneer, passed away at the age of 54. May she rest in peace.
