Julio Urias Charged With 5 Misdemeanors Over Alleged DV Incident

Julio Urias finds himself entangled in a legal ordeal as he faces multiple criminal charges stemming from allegations of assaulting his wife during a soccer match last year.

According to a spokesperson for the L.A. City Attorney’s office, Urias was formally charged with five misdemeanors on Monday.

The charges against the former Dodgers star include one count of spousal battery, two counts of domestic battery involving a dating relationship, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of assault.

His arraignment is set for early May. The incident in question allegedly occurred on September 3, 2023, while Urias and his wife, Daisy, attended a soccer game between LAFC and Inter Miami at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

Law enforcement sources revealed that an altercation ensued between Urias and Daisy after the pitcher took photos with female fans at the event.

According to these sources, Urias allegedly became physical during the argument, reportedly putting his arm around her, slamming her against a fence, and pulling her hair. It’s also reported that Urias swung at her during the altercation.

Urias was arrested at the scene following the allegations and was booked on a felony domestic violence charge, posting $50,000 bail afterward.

However, the L.A. District Attorney declined to pursue felony charges, determining in January that the incident did not warrant such charges.

Nevertheless, Monday’s filing indicates that the City Attorney believes misdemeanor charges are appropriate.

Currently a free agent, Urias has not played since the alleged incident occurred, and he remains on MLB’s administrative leave.

Throughout his career, the 27-year-old has amassed an impressive 3.11 ERA with a win-loss record of 60-25.
