British-Nigerian man jailed for 28 years

Marcus Adepoju, aged 31, residing on Claremont Street, faced sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court on April 12th, following his conviction for a series of firearm and drug-related offenses. His trial, which concluded in February, revealed his involvement in multiple illegal activities.

The incident leading to Adepoju’s incarceration occurred in April 2023, when authorities responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Nelgarde Road, Catford.

A masked assailant had fired three shots through a window, narrowly missing the target but causing minor injuries from shattered glass and extensive property damage.

Subsequent investigations, including thorough analysis of CCTV footage, led detectives to a property on Laleham Road, Hither Green, from which the suspect had traveled to and returned post-incident.

Surveillance efforts focused on individuals frequenting the said property, eventually pinpointing Adepoju’s movements to a nearby storage facility in Forest Hill.

A search of the unit uncovered firearms, ammunition, drugs, cash, and knives. Another storage facility linked to Adepoju contained additional incriminating evidence.

Adepoju’s apprehension in Chingford revealed further damning evidence, as he was found in possession of keys to the Laleham Road property and both storage units.

Forensic analysis of seized firearms, coupled with DNA evidence, tied him directly to the shooting incident and a prior bullet hole found in a lorry in Forest Hill. His mobile phone yielded images of yet another firearm.

At an earlier hearing, Adepoju pleaded guilty to several charges, including firearm possession, money laundering, drug possession with intent to supply, and possession of bladed articles. However, he was also found guilty of attempted murder, firearm possession with intent to endanger life, and additional drug-related charges.

Francis Ajeigbe, aged 60, who was arrested during a search of the Laleham Road property, was also implicated in drug-related offenses and money laundering. He received a two-year suspended prison sentence.

The severity of Adepoju’s actions underscores the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and ensure the safety of communities.
