Lakers Fire Darvin Ham After Two Seasons

Darvin Ham finds himself without a job as the Los Angeles Lakers made the decision to part ways with their head coach following a two-season tenure.

The announcement came just days after the team’s disappointing elimination from the playoffs in the first round, marking a swift end to Ham’s time at the helm of the Purple and Gold.

Speculation surrounding a coaching change surfaced immediately after the Lakers’ defeat to the Denver Nuggets, with criticism directed at Ham’s leadership abilities and his perceived shortcomings in adjusting strategies during crucial moments.

Despite the criticism, Ham’s tenure saw some notable achievements, including a commendable playoff run the previous year and a victory in the inaugural In-Season Tournament held in December.

In a statement addressing the decision, Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka expressed appreciation for Ham’s contributions to the team and acknowledged the successes achieved during his tenure.

Pelinka emphasized the organization’s commitment to delivering championship-caliber basketball and deemed the coaching change as the best course of action following a thorough evaluation of the season.

The Lakers are now poised to explore potential candidates to fill the vacant coaching position, with names such as Mike Budenholzer, Kenny Atkinson, and JJ Redick reportedly under consideration.

Additionally, there’s speculation about the possibility of pursuing current Clippers coach Ty Lue, should he become available.

Reflecting on Ham’s coaching record, he compiled a 90-74 record during the regular season and went 11-12 in playoff games, including a concerning 1-8 record against the Nuggets, which likely contributed to the decision to part ways.
