Darius Aaron Morris, former Los Angeles Lakers guard, tragically passed away this week at the young age of 33.

In a statement issued by his family on Saturday morning, they expressed profound sorrow and urged for privacy and understanding during this difficult time.

During his time at the University of Michigan, Morris left an indelible mark, setting the Wolverines’ single-season assists record with an impressive 235 assists. This record, however, was later surpassed by Trey Burke in subsequent years.

Drafted in the second round by the Lakers in 2011, Morris embarked on a professional basketball journey that spanned four years.

His early years were notably spent alongside the late basketball icon Kobe Bryant. Beyond the Lakers, he also graced the courts for the Philadelphia 76ers, L.A. Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets, showcasing his talents through 132 appearances and averaging 3.3 points, 1 rebound, and 1.4 assists.

Following his NBA career, Morris ventured overseas, playing in leagues across China, Russia, and France, demonstrating his unwavering passion for the game.

The circumstances surrounding Morris’s passing remain undisclosed at this time, though it has been confirmed that his body was found on Thursday in the Los Angeles area.

Before his professional endeavors, Morris flourished in his hometown of Los Angeles, showcasing his basketball prowess during an outstanding high school career.

His collegiate tenure at the University of Michigan further solidified his reputation, earning him third-team all-Big Ten Conference honors during his sophomore season.

Darius Morris leaves behind a legacy that transcends the court, remembered not only for his athletic achievements but also for the impact he made on those around him.
