Mother throws her disabled 6-year-old son into crocodile infested river
A tragic incident unfolded in Uttara Kannada, a district in Karnataka, India, where a mother allegedly threw her disabled six-year-old son into a river teeming with crocodiles, resulting in his reported mauling to death by the reptiles.
Reports from the Times of India detail the distressing events leading up to the incident. Savitri Kumar, 26, had engaged in a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Kumar, 27, who repeatedly pressured her to “dispose of” their disabled child.
Allegedly, Ravi questioned Savitri’s decision to give birth to a child with a disability, exacerbating the tension between them.
On the evening of Saturday, May 4, the parents found themselves embroiled in another dispute regarding their son.
Overwhelmed and distressed, Savitri purportedly threw her son into a waste canal that empties into the Kali river, known for its crocodile-infested waters. Concerned neighbors witnessed the act and promptly alerted the authorities.
Despite efforts by police divers to locate the boy in the dark, their search yielded no results. It wasn’t until the following morning, May 5, that the child’s lifeless body was discovered.
Tragically, the body displayed bite marks consistent with a crocodile attack, and the child had sustained severe injuries, including the loss of a hand.
A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to ascertain the cause of death of the six-year-old. The couple, who also have a two-year-old son, reportedly frequently quarreled about their older son’s speech impediment, adding to the family’s distress.
Law enforcement officers have initiated an investigation into the incident, with a police spokesperson categorizing it as a “murder” case.
Both Savitri and Ravi Kumar have been apprehended in connection with the tragedy, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the need for justice to be served in this heartbreaking ordeal.
