Prince William Visits Hospital on Isles of Scilly

Continuing his visit to Cornwall, Prince William’s agenda on Friday, May 10, included a stop at St. Mary’s Harbor on the Isles of Scilly, followed by a tour of a new community hospital.

As the inheritor of the Duchy of Cornwall estate and the Duke of Cornwall title, following Queen Elizabeth’s passing in September 2022, Prince William’s responsibilities extend beyond ceremonial duties.

The Duchy of Cornwall, a substantial estate, serves as a financial resource for his family and supports his charitable initiatives.

William commenced his two-day itinerary on May 9 by visiting Nansledan, the site of his housing project aimed at assisting individuals experiencing homelessness.

He then proceeded to Fistral Beach, where he familiarized himself with water safety protocols ahead of the upcoming summer season.

On Friday, the prince journeyed to the Isles of Scilly, focusing on engaging with the local community around St. Mary’s Harbor.

This bustling harbor serves as a vital nexus for industry and tourism, anticipating a surge of approximately 100,000 annual visitors.

Interacting with residents and business owners, William gleaned insights into their preparations for the impending tourist influx.

Subsequently, Prince William visited St. Mary’s Hospital to learn about plans for a forthcoming integrated health and social care facility.

Located on Duchy-owned land, this facility aims to enhance healthcare provisions for the island communities. The proposed expansion includes 12 additional residential care home beds and a modern maternity suite.

During his visit, William conferred with representatives from the local council involved in facilitating the project’s realization and engaged in discussions with the hospital staff.

Meanwhile, as Prince William attended to his engagements in Cornwall, his brother Prince Harry and Meghan Markle embarked on their inaugural visit to Nigeria.

Invited by Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, the couple initiated their itinerary with a visit to a local school.

Subsequently, they met with the Chief of Defense Staff, and Prince Harry visited injured servicemembers at a military hospital.

The Sussexes’ agenda in Nigeria extends through the weekend, featuring engagements such as attending a training session for the organization Nigeria:

Unconquered and participating in a reception honoring military families, hosted by the Chief of Defense Staff. Additionally, the Duchess of Sussex is scheduled to co-host the Women in Leadership event alongside Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

The couple’s packed schedule for Sunday includes a basketball clinic with Giants of Africa, a cultural reception, and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered.

Prince Harry’s visit to London prior to the Nigeria trip marked the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.

While he extended invitations to several royal family members, logistical constraints prevented a meeting with his father, King Charles, during the visit. Despite this, Prince Harry remains understanding of his father’s commitments and expresses hope for a future reunion.
