Eurovision Contestant Excluded from Final Amid Ongoing Police Probe
The Eurovision community was rocked as news emerged that Joost Klein, the representative from the Netherlands in this year’s Eurovision competition, has been barred from participating in the final. Organizers cited ongoing police inquiries as the reason behind this unprecedented decision.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Eurovision team revealed that Swedish authorities are investigating a claim made by a female member of the production crew against Klein.
While the specifics of the allegations remain undisclosed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), it was revealed that the incident in question occurred following Klein’s semi-final performance on Thursday night.
Consequently, the EBU deemed it inappropriate for Klein to continue participating in the competition while the investigation unfolds.
This development comes on the heels of a surprising move by the EBU less than 24 hours prior, when Klein was barred from participating in rehearsals, sparking a flurry of speculation on social media.
Although rumors circulated regarding a potential altercation involving Klein and another performer, the EBU swiftly dispelled such claims.
Klein had qualified as one of the 26 finalists set to compete in the grand final, but his disqualification reduces the final roster to 25 participants.
Meanwhile, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS offered its own account of events, alleging that Klein’s repeated requests not to be filmed backstage were disregarded, leading to a confrontation with a camera and subsequent ban.
