Boxer Sherif Lawal Passes Away at 29 Following KO in Debut Match

Middleweight boxer Sherif Lawal tragically passed away after collapsing in the ring following a knockout punch during his professional debut in the UK. At the tender age of 29, Lawal’s promising career was cut short in a heartbreaking turn of events.

Lawal stepped into the ring for his first professional bout at the Harrow Leisure Centre in London, facing off against Portuguese fighter Malam Varela, who held a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. The match unfolded on Sunday as part of the Clash of the Titans undercard event.

In the fourth round of the intense showdown, Varela delivered a devastating right hook that landed squarely on Lawal’s temple, sending him crashing to the canvas.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the referee swiftly intervened, signaling for immediate medical assistance.

Ringside medical personnel sprang into action, administering CPR to Lawal on the canvas for over 10 agonizing minutes before he was rushed to Northwick Park Hospital.

Despite the efforts of the medical team, Lawal tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Lawal’s untimely passing sent shockwaves through the boxing community, leaving his supporters and fans grief-stricken.

Messages of condolences poured in, with one devastated fan expressing, “I am so sorry to hear this. Such Talent. Condolences to Sherif’s family & friends. May he rest in peace.”

Lawal’s journey in boxing began in 2018, and earlier this year, he made the decision to transition into the professional ranks—a move that was met with encouragement from his boxing trainer, CJ Hussein.

Reflecting on Lawal’s potential, Hussein remarked, “I think the pro game will suit Sherif down to a tee, he’s got all the talent to become a great middleweight. He’s a real inspiration to all the younger boxers at the gym.”

Though Lawal’s time in the ring was tragically brief, his legacy as a talented and determined boxer will endure, leaving an indelible mark on the sport he loved.
