Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, has received a significant nod towards his professional basketball aspirations.
Following his cardiac arrest in July 2023, the 19-year-old guard has been medically cleared for NBA participation.
According to ESPN, Bronny underwent evaluations by the league’s Fitness to Play Panel, comprising three physicians, ahead of this week’s pre-draft combine in Chicago.
The panel granted him approval to engage fully in workouts, including 5-on-5 scrimmages starting Tuesday, providing him with an opportunity to showcase his skills among fellow draft prospects.
Bronny’s journey to this point has been marked by resilience. After experiencing a cardiac emergency just nine months ago, he underwent a procedure to address a congenital heart defect, sidelining him in the lead-up to his freshman season with USC.
Despite this setback, Bronny made a notable impact, averaging nearly five points, three rebounds, and more than two assists per game in 25 appearances during the 2023-24 season.
With just over two weeks remaining until the draft decision deadline, Bronny faces a pivotal choice: remain in the draft or return to college for another year.
Should he opt for the latter, he may find himself with a new team, as he also entered the NCAA transfer portal upon announcing his NBA intentions.
