Rory McIlroy Files for Divorce – Golf Star Ends Marriage

Rory McIlroy’s manager, Sean O’Flaherty, stated Tuesday afternoon that the golfer will not be commenting on Monday’s divorce filing. However, he emphasized McIlroy’s determination to handle “this difficult time” “as respectfully and amicably as possible.”

Rory McIlroy and his wife, Erica, are headed for divorce as the PGA Tour star filed the necessary documents in Florida on Monday, ending their seven-year marriage.

The reasons for the split were not disclosed, and McIlroy’s attorney has yet to respond to requests for comments.

McIlroy first met Erica in 2012 when she was working at the Ryder Cup event for the PGA. She famously helped him get a police escort to the course after a mishap with his alarm clock nearly made him miss his tee time.

At the time, McIlroy was dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. After McIlroy and Wozniacki ended their engagement in 2014, he and Erica began their romantic relationship.

The couple maintained a relatively private relationship even after marrying in 2017. Nevertheless, Erica was a supportive presence throughout McIlroy’s career, often seen cheering for him at tournaments.

She notably supported him at the 2023 Ryder Cup and even caddied for him at the Masters Par 3 contest that year. They have one child together, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born in 2020.

Despite the personal upheaval, McIlroy is set to compete in this weekend’s PGA Championship in Kentucky, where he is considered one of the favorites alongside Scottie Scheffler.
