A tanker truck erupted in flames on a Colorado freeway, resulting in one fatality and a driver narrowly escaping through the fire.

The incident occurred Thursday morning along I-70 near Denver when the tanker, which had pulled over due to overheating, was struck by another vehicle.

Footage obtained from the scene captures the immediate aftermath of the collision. According to state officials, the second vehicle slammed into the tanker, causing it to ignite and explode. The resulting fire quickly spread across the freeway.

Dashcam footage shows a driver unintentionally driving through the blaze, narrowly avoiding disaster. The video reveals the terrifying moment as the driver finds himself surrounded by flames before emerging unscathed. However, the car in front of him, which also passed through the inferno, appeared to have a lingering fire on its tire.

Additional footage of the accident show the fire expanding, spreading to nearby grassy areas and sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. The intensity of the blaze led to the closure of parts of I-70 for much of the day.

Tragically, the driver who collided with the tanker was killed, while the tanker driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Cleanup efforts continued into the afternoon to restore the affected area.
