Ryan Reynolds’ Movie ‘IF’ Flops at Box Office

Ryan Reynolds‘ latest film, “IF,” appears to be struggling at the box office, despite boasting a high-profile ensemble cast.

According to Deadline, the movie earned a modest $10.3 million on its opening Friday, including previews, and is projected to reach only around $30 million for the opening weekend, falling short of initial estimates.

Adding to the film’s woes, critics have not been kind, giving “IF” a disappointing 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This is in stark contrast to the audience reception, which has been much more favorable with an 84% audience score on the same platform, indicating that while critics are unimpressed, viewers are enjoying the film.

Deadline suggests that industry insiders should remain calm, pointing out that Paramount took a creative risk with “IF.” The film, which carries a PG rating, caters to a niche market that often doesn’t generate immediate high returns but can achieve long-term success.

Historically, PG-rated live-action films are known for having a slower start at the box office but can eventually find their audience.

“IF,” directed by and starring John Krasinski, also features performances by Steve Carell, Emily Blunt, Awkwafina, Blake Lively, Vince Vaughn, and Matt Damon.

The plot centers on Cal (Reynolds), a man who helps forgotten imaginary friends reconnect with the children who created them as they grow up.

Despite the movie’s impressive $110 million budget, its initial earnings indicate a steep hill to climb to break even.

Producers may need to stay optimistic and keep believing in the potential of “IF” to eventually find its footing with a broader audience.
