On Monday, May 20, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.

In an official statement, Khamenei expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “I announce five days of public mourning and offer my condolences to the dear people of Iran,” marking the nation’s grief over the sudden loss of its leader.

President Raisi was confirmed dead on Monday after his helicopter went down in a mountainous area of East Azerbaijan province.

The accident occurred while rescue teams were actively searching the region, following the helicopter’s disappearance from radar on Sunday afternoon.

Among those on board were Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several bodyguards, all of whom also perished in the crash.

Early Monday morning, relief workers found the wreckage, and state television confirmed the president’s death shortly thereafter.

State media honored Raisi’s dedication to his country, with a statement proclaiming, “The servant of the Iranian nation, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, has achieved the highest level of martyrdom while serving the people.”

The Mehr news agency echoed this sentiment, affirming his passing and commemorating his service to Iran.
