The Argentine has departed Stamford Bridge by mutual agreement after guiding Chelsea to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League this season.

Reports indicate that Mauricio Pochettino’s departure followed an internal review conducted by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

The duo assessed the team’s performance during the 2023/24 season and concluded that it was time for Pochettino to leave his position in West London.

In an official club statement, the sporting directors expressed their appreciation for Pochettino’s efforts, saying:

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, and we wish him the very best in his future coaching endeavors.”

Pochettino also reflected on his tenure with the club, stating: “I am thankful to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to contribute to this football club’s history.

The Club is now well-positioned to continue progressing in the Premier League and Europe in the years ahead.”

During his brief tenure, Pochettino led Chelsea to the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals, although they did not secure either title.

Despite a rocky start to the season, he managed to lose only one of his last 15 Premier League matches. Chelsea supported Pochettino with approximately £400 million in transfer fees.

Pochettino’s departure marks the third time Chelsea has changed managers since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in May 2022, a period during which the club has spent over £1 billion on new signings.

Additionally, Chelsea announced the departure of Pochettino’s coaching staff, including Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.

The club stated that no further comments would be made until a new manager is appointed. Potential candidates for the managerial position include Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Leicester’s Enzo Maresca.
