Nicki Minaj detained and seemingly arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport

Nicki Minaj was detained and seemingly arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on May 25, 2024. Reports indicate that she was stopped by Dutch police for possession of “soft drugs” which were later identified as pre-rolled marijuana joints .

In a video posted by Minaj on social media, a police officer can be heard telling her she is under arrest, leading to a confrontation where she demanded legal representation.

After a thorough inspection and a brief detainment, Minaj was released and fined by the Dutch authorities.

She was allowed to continue her journey, heading to Manchester for her scheduled concert. The incident caused a delay, but her concert in Manchester was expected to proceed later that evening.

Nicki Minaj’s departure from Amsterdam hit an unexpected snag when she was detained by police at Schiphol Airport en route to the UK.

The rapper livestreamed the encounter on Saturday, where a police officer informed her she needed to accompany them to a precinct.

In the video, Minaj repeatedly asks for the police station’s address and the reason for her detainment. One officer mentions they hope to help her reach her next show on time but then states that she is under arrest.

The officers requested that she stop filming and enter their police vehicle, to which Minaj responded by insisting on speaking to her lawyer and refusing to stop recording.

Minaj eventually entered the police van voluntarily, without handcuffs. Robert Kapel, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, confirmed the arrest of an American woman for possessing “soft drugs,” typically marijuana, but did not identify her by name.

In another video, an airport employee apologetically explains the need for a thorough search of her bags. Minaj tweeted afterwards, indicating that the police claimed to have found marijuana in her luggage, which her security team said belonged to them.
