Professional golfer Grayson Murray has tragically died at the age of 30. Murray, who recently won the Sony Open in January 2024, had a promising career highlighted by multiple PGA and Korn Ferry Tour victories.

He had recently withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge due to illness before his sudden passing on May 25, 2024.

Murray’s career was marked by notable achievements, but he also faced personal challenges, including struggles with addiction and a severe injury from a scooter accident in 2022.

Despite these hurdles, he had made a significant comeback, reclaiming his form and winning two events in 2023, which brought him back to the PGA Tour. His untimely death has shocked the golf community and his fans around the world.

Golf star Grayson Murray has died at the age of 30, the PGA Tour announced on Saturday, just hours after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge due to an illness.

Murray was competing in the tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, but withdrew during Friday’s second round, citing an illness.

No further information was provided at the time. On Saturday morning, the PGA Tour shared the devastating news of his passing.

“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” said PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan in a statement.

“The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

Despite the tragic event, the Charles Schwab Challenge will continue as scheduled, honoring the wishes of Murray’s family.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play.

They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes,” Monahan added.

Legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz addressed Murray’s death on air, delivering an emotional message as CBS commenced its coverage of the event.

Murray’s most recent victory came in January at the Sony Open in Hawaii, ending a winless streak that had lasted over six years. His first PGA Tour win was at the Barbasol Championship in 2017.

Before turning professional, Murray was a decorated amateur, winning three Junior World Championship.
