Breaking: Presidency Denies Claims That Tinubu Will Address National Assembly

On Tuesday, the Presidency denied reports that President Bola Tinubu would address a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The Presidency clarified that the Office of the President was not involved in planning such an event, labeling the report as false.

Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, issued a statement titled, “In commemoration of May 29 and the first Anniversary of the President Tinubu Administration,” to set the record straight.

The statement emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to good governance, noting that he has inaugurated several strategic projects across the country and plans to launch more transformative initiatives for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Regarding the rumored address, Ngelale stated, “In view of public commentary concerning the President delivering a speech before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow, May 29, 2024, it is important to state that this information is false and unauthorized as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.”

This declaration contradicted an earlier announcement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

On Tuesday, Onanuga had issued a statement indicating that while President Tinubu would not deliver a nationwide address to mark his first anniversary, he was expected to speak before a joint session of the 10th National Assembly on Wednesday in Abuja.

Onanuga’s statement read, “Instead, the President will address a joint session of the National Assembly, which has lined up a programme to commemorate 25 years of the nation’s democratic journey at both the executive and legislative levels.”
