Keyamo Halts Controversial Helicopter Landing Levy

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the temporary suspension of the controversial helicopter landing fee recently introduced by the federal government.

In a statement released on Friday by his ministry’s spokesperson, Odutayo Oluseyi, Keyamo explained that the suspension aims to allow a review of the policy following complaints from stakeholders.

The federal government had previously announced a $300 helicopter landing levy, with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) authorized to begin charging the fees.

NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited had been granted sole authorization to administer these fees on behalf of NAMA for federal entities.

However, after significant opposition from aviation stakeholders, Keyamo announced that the levy has been suspended as of May 30, 2024, to facilitate a review.

A committee has been established to address the concerns raised by stakeholders and is expected to submit a report by the end of June 2024.

This committee includes members from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, its relevant agencies, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), International Oil Companies (IOCs), and NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited.

Keyamo stated, “Following a meeting with the AON executive on the issue of helicopter landing levies collection at aerodromes, helipads, airstrips, etc., the enforcement granted to Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd. has been temporarily suspended to allow for a review based on stakeholder feedback.”
