Ex-Love Islander Danica Taylor Hits Back at Critics of Her New Song

Dancer and former Love Island star Danica Taylor has fired back at social media critics who harshly criticized her latest single, ‘Ugh’.

Danica, who has been hinting at her new musical endeavor for some time, faced backlash after sharing a teaser of her upcoming track.

Many online users accused the lyrics of being colorist. However, Danica firmly responded, stating that she won’t conform to their opinions.

The dancer released two teasers for the song. The first teaser featured a video of her and other dancers enjoying the track outdoors, with Danica wearing a classic white vest, denim shorts, and iconic red heels—a look that fans noted paid homage to Beyoncé’s outfit from the ‘Crazy In Love’ music video.

The second teaser stirred more controversy, as listeners accused her lyrics of being colorist. The contentious lyrics were: “Put a dash of that sass with Jamaica, add a queen light skin make it shake ya, that’s the formula that imma make ya.”

Reactions to the song were mixed, with many of Danica’s fans, including some of her fellow Love Island stars, showing support for her latest career move.

The negative comments focused on both the lyrical content and the overall quality of the song. Danica responded to the criticism on her Instagram story, sharing a snippet of herself listing the hateful comments on a whiteboard.

Among the critics was music executive Isa Perez, who labeled Danica as “embarrassing” and suggested she has no “darker” friends.

Despite the backlash, Danica remains steadfast in her support for her song. Although she has postponed its release, she has made it clear that the show will go on.
