Tragic Accident: Nigerian Woman Fatally Struck by Metro Bus in the U.S

A Nigerian woman, Damilola Matuluko, tragically lost her life after being struck by a metro bus in downtown Houston on the morning of Friday, May 31.

According to ABC News, the incident occurred near the intersection of Rusk and Smith streets before 7:40 a.m.

The METRO Police Department confirmed that Matuluko, who was employed as a city worker, was in the crosswalk and had the right of way when the accident happened.

Investigations revealed that the traffic light had turned green, and the bus, operated by First Transit, turned onto Rusk Street, hitting Matuluko fatally.

The bus driver, a contract employee, is reportedly cooperating with investigators. There were two passengers on the bus at the time, but no other injuries were reported.

Matuluko had been a member of the City of Houston’s HR Operations Employee Relations team since 2023.

In a statement, COH HR Director Jane Cheeks said, “Although Damilola had only been with the HR Department for a short time, she had become a beloved and impactful team member. She will be sincerely missed by her colleagues in the City of Houston.”

Friends and family members have taken to social media to mourn her passing. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
