Chennedy Carter Receives Rousing Ovation from Fans Following Caitlin Clark Incident
Despite outside criticism, Chennedy Carter found strong support from home fans as the Chicago Sky returned to play in Chicago.
In their first game since Carter’s controversial body check of Caitlin Clark last weekend, she received a rousing ovation from the crowd.
Carter and the Sky faced the New York Liberty on Tuesday, and fans made it clear they were behind her, cheering loudly and even giving her a standing ovation when she checked into the game.
Carter expressed her gratitude in the post-game press conference, saying, “It felt good just to know that Sky Town supports me.
Ultimately it got me going, they gave me confidence. Soon as I came in, they gave me confidence. I started feelin’ it. I’m like, ‘Okay, the crowd is with you, your team is with you’—let’s go!”
Carter, who signed with Chicago earlier this year, scored 16 points in the game. However, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory against Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty, with the Sky falling 88-75.
Reflecting on the loss, Carter said, “We have a lot that we need to get better on. I gotta find a way to get us all on the same page. Sometimes we have little slippage and we can’t do that.” The Chicago Sky currently hold a 3-5 record, placing them 9th in the standings.
