Ondo Police Arrest Man with Eight Human Skulls, Suspect Claims He Needed Funds for Mother’s Medical Bills

Ondo State Command officers have apprehended Yusuf Adenoyin, 31, in Isua Akoko, Akoko South-East LGA, for possessing eight human skulls.**

Yusuf Adenoyin, a suspect in the grisly crime, was paraded at the State Police headquarters on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

He admitted to carrying the skulls to raise N2 million for his ailing mother’s hospital treatment. Formerly a palm oil trader, Adenoyin claimed he turned to the illicit trade of human skulls after discovering its higher profitability compared to his previous business.

Hailing from Kogi State, Adenoyin revealed that economic hardships and the urgency of his mother’s medical needs drove him to contact an herbalist he found on social media.

The herbalist introduced him to the human skull trade. Adenoyin confessed to purchasing skulls at N20,000 each from a supplier who retrieves them from graveyards, and reselling them in Osun State for between N30,000 and N35,000 per skull.

Adenoyin was caught while traveling to Osogbo, Osun State, with the skulls. The police intercepted him at the Isua/Epinmi checkpoint in a commercial vehicle.

Upon the vehicle being flagged down, Adenoyin attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. A search of his belongings revealed eight dry human skulls wrapped in polythene and hidden in a sack of garri. The skulls had traces of fresh flesh, which Adenoyin claimed was a dog’s heart.

This was reportedly the third batch of skulls Adenoyin was transporting. He confessed to the police that he sourced the skulls from a man who is now on the run.

Ondo State Police Commissioner Abayomi Oladipupo confirmed the arrest and stated that Adenoyin would face charges following the completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner assured the public that the police are committed to bringing all involved in the trafficking of human body parts to justice.
