Two Arrested in Barber Shop Shooting That Killed Three Children

Two suspects, aged 24 and 28, have been arrested in connection with a tragic shooting at a barber shop in Khayelitsha, South Africa, that resulted in the deaths of three children and a 30-year-old man.

The deadly incident took place on Saturday afternoon along Qwarha Street in Site C. The suspects reportedly opened fire, killing the children, who were aged 12, 11, and five, as well as the adult male. After the shooting, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving two other individuals unharmed.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that the arrested suspects are facing charges of murder and attempted murder. They are scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha magistrate’s court on Friday, June 14.

“With the investigation unfolding, the possibility of more arrests and further charges being pursued cannot be ruled out,” Brig. Potelwa stated, indicating that the investigation is ongoing and may expand as new evidence emerges.

Additionally, Western Cape serious violent crime detectives are investigating another multiple murder shooting that occurred in Nyanga on Sunday. As of now, no arrests have been made in the Nyanga incident.

The community is reeling from these back-to-back violent episodes, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
