Amber Portwood’s fiancé, Gary Wayt, reported missing recently, may actually be several thousand miles from where he was last seen.
Assistant Chief Wayne Dover of the Bryson City Police Department reports that while Wayt remains listed as a missing person, there are no immediate suspicions of foul play or suicide.
In a potential breakthrough, a man believed to be Gary was spotted Tuesday morning in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Witnesses claim this individual identified himself as Gary and appeared calm and relaxed, engaging in normal activities without any signs of distress.
According to Dover, the man was seen again later that day just west of Weatherford, carrying on with his day seemingly unaffected.
Despite these sightings, which have not yet been confirmed by law enforcement, Gary remains officially missing. This is the first indication that he might be safe and well.
Gary was last seen by Amber Portwood on Sunday evening in their hotel in North Carolina. His sudden disappearance prompted Amber to file a missing person’s report, expressing her concern publicly.
She mentioned that Gary took his keys and wallet but left his phone behind. Amber acknowledged they had a conversation before he left, though she clarified it was not a major argument.
The Bryson City Police Department is working with the FBI and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to resolve the case.
Authorities have communicated these developments to Amber, who is likely puzzled by the reports of Gary’s presence in Oklahoma.
