Tragic Shooting at Arkansas Grocery Store Leaves 8 Injured – 2 Dead including Shooter

Two people out of ten were killed in a mass shooting at Mad Butcher Grocery in Fordyce, Arkansas, on Friday, June 21, 2024.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., when Arkansas State Police responded to reports of an active shooter.

Among the victims, a police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the shooter was critically wounded by responding officers and is now in police custody.

A statement from Arkansas State Police detailed that nine civilians were shot, two of them fatally. Fordyce City Council Member Roderick Rogers described the scene, revealing that some victims sought refuge in a store cooler during the chaos.

Witness David Rodriguez recounted hearing what he initially thought were fireworks before realizing it was gunfire. He saw people fleeing and the arrival of emergency responders.

Matthew Gill, the meat manager at Mad Butcher, reported that the shooter, armed with a shotgun, engaged in a shootout with the police, leading to the store’s front windows being shattered by gunfire.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her condolences and confirmed she is in “constant contact” with state police.

Rogers noted that survivors are deeply traumatized, and efforts are being made to provide counseling and support.
