Insiders close to homeowners Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank reveal that the couple has no intention of selling the Brentwood property, where the Hollywood icon died from a barbiturate overdose in August 1962.
Instead, they are preparing to challenge the L.A. City Council’s unanimous vote to grant the house landmark status, which prevents any demolition or significant alteration.
Milstein and Bank reportedly feel wronged by the ruling, as the home was intended to be an extension of their existing family residence next door.
Having purchased the property for $8.35 million last year, the couple now finds themselves unable to use it as planned due to the historic designation.
The house is in severe disrepair, including significant roof damage leading to leaks, but the new status complicates any potential renovations or changes.
Since the home’s designation, the owners have faced threats over their lawsuit contesting the decision. They frequently have to clarify to fans that the property is private and not open to the public, a stance that likely won’t change.
Conversely, the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club supports the designation, arguing that preserving the home is crucial for honoring Monroe’s legacy and her contributions to the film industry.
Despite the fan club’s dedication to commemorating Monroe’s life, Milstein and Bank are steadfast in their opposition to the designation, vowing to continue their legal battle.
