Michelle Peters, 47, is facing serious charges after allegedly poisoning her husband’s Mountain Dew with weed killer when he didn’t show enough gratitude for his 50th birthday party.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, Peters reportedly spiked her husband’s Mountain Dew with Roundup weed killer due to his perceived lack of appreciation for the party she had organized.

Her husband became suspicious after noticing an unusual taste and experiencing severe symptoms such as coughing up brown or yellow mucus, a sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea.

After finding that Mountain Dew consumed outside their home tasted normal, he reviewed CCTV footage.

The footage purportedly showed Peters tampering with bottles of Mountain Dew in their garage by adding Roundup before returning them to the refrigerator. He provided the tainted drink and video evidence to a third party, fearing for his life.

When confronted, Peters initially claimed she was making a homemade weed killer based on a Pinterest recipe, but later admitted her actions were motivated by anger over her husband’s reaction to the birthday celebration.

She allegedly suggested he had COVID-19 and should avoid their grandchildren when he mentioned feeling ill.

Peters has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. She is currently held at the Laclede County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2.

The husband speculates that Peters might have been motivated by a desire to collect his $500,000 life insurance policy or due to an affair.
