Gunmen Attack Wedding in France – Resulting in 1 Dead and 5 Injured

A masked gang attacked a wedding in Thionville, France, killing one person and wounding five others.

Sources indicate that the attack, which occurred in the northeastern city of Thionville, was linked to a score-settling incident among drug traffickers.

The violence erupted at the Eden Palace reception hall around 1:00 a.m. on the night of Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30. Approximately 100 guests, reportedly from the local Turkish community, were in attendance.

During the assault, a man in his 30s was killed and three others sustained serious injuries, with two of them in life-threatening condition.

Additionally, a pregnant woman suffered minor injuries and was reported to be in shock, while another man was injured by glass shards. The victims ranged in age from 25 to 50.

The attackers, described as three men in black hoodies and face coverings, fled the scene before the police arrived and remain at large.

According to a police source, the shooting began when a group of guests went outside to smoke, and the gunmen opened fire, discharging over 15 rounds. Three victims were hit outside the venue, while two were in the entrance hall.

Witnesses reported that the assailants used two Kalashnikovs and a shotgun. “Several dozen rounds of ammunition were fired.

Four people were hit by bullets,” stated prosecutor Nancy Francois Capin-Dulhoste. “One has died, three others are in a state of absolute emergency. Two other people also suffered minor injuries, particularly from glass shards.”

The attackers reportedly arrived in a 4×4 vehicle, likely a BMW. Authorities suspect the attack was a targeted hit linked to drug trafficking, as both the deceased and the injured men were known to law enforcement for drug-related cases.

Investigators are examining how the attackers knew their targets would be isolated from the other guests.

A source emphasized that the wedding itself was not targeted, but rather specific individuals who were attending. The venue’s CCTV captured the attack, and a glass door riddled with bullet holes was visible at the scene the following morning.

Thionville, near the borders of Luxembourg and Germany, is recognized as a hotspot for drug trafficking activity.
