The exhausting present continues on VULTURES 2, which appears to exist as a result of the powers that be simply don’t need Ye to win, man. That is the entire album’s shtick: I survived cancel tradition, a conspiracy that Ye’s noxious, neverending presence within the highlight disproves. The sneering sentiment underscores the album’s steadfast lack of function. Although the beats are loud and plush, and although friends like Lil Wayne, Lil Durk, and Don Toliver swing via with energized performances, there’s no imaginative and prescient or route connecting all of the transferring components. “Lifeless” clumsily swings from pounding drums and an energized Future verse to stilted and silly Ye traces. “Twenty the brand new 30, however you’re nonetheless 30,” the 47-year-old raps. “River” opens with spry and humorous Younger Thug flexes (“Like a grimy butt, I’m having cheese”) then devolves into imprecise prayers from Ye. “An excessive amount of hate and never sufficient love/Free Larry, free Younger Thug,” he croons mechanically.
Elsewhere, he squanders the anguished R&B loop of the “Marvins Room” ripoff “530,” stumbling via the final and clearly unfinished verse with, you guessed it, some scoop-diddy-whoops. It feels telling that the misogynistic insults are the clearest traces: “Don’t sa-fah-na-da, I’m new with this/Da-da, na-dana, goi’ via with this/Pa-da-la, fa-na-dan, don’t suppose this/Can’t fa-fa-na-da for you faux bitch/You don’t actually love Ye, go take heed to Drake, bitch.” Male grievance and virility are the one issues holding Ye and Ty Dolla’s partnership collectively.
VULTURES 2 is even shoddier in development and execution than its predecessor. That is frat rap for bitter child daddies and aspiring trad husbands—kings, I assume. Andrew Tate most likely loves it. I’m undecided how anyone else may. No adrenaline, dopamine, or blood programs via this carrion of an album. Regardless of the frequent overtures to grandeur, spectacle, and machismo, these songs are limp and flabby. Nobody appears to have questioned why somebody would wish to play these songs past the names hooked up to them, or tried to make them greater than sonic merch. Ye should actually miss the Hole.
