HKU Regulation Welcomes Prof. Julian Nowag

Welcome to Prof. Julian Nowag, who joins the College of Regulation as an Affiliate Professor.

Julian is an Affiliate Professor at HKU and Lund College, Sweden, specializing in competitors legislation. He’s a number one scholar in sustainability and is at present engaged on the intersection between AI and competitors. His latest work with Thomas Ok Cheng on  Algorithmic Predation and Exclusion gained a Concurrence Award in 2023. Julian can be an Affiliate on the Oxford Centre for Competitors Regulation and Coverage and serves as a managing editor of The Journal for Antitrust Enforcement (OUP). He has authored and edited a number of books, together with Environmental Integration in Competitors and Free-Motion Legal guidelines  (OUP 2016), Intersections Between Company and Antitrust Regulation (eds. with Marco Corradi) (CUP 2024), Analysis Handbook on Sustainability and Competitors Regulation  (ed) (Edward Elgar 2024), and World Antitrust and Sustainability: legislation, economics, enforcement (OUP forthcoming 2024/25). 

Julian earned his Grasp’s diploma (MSt) and doctorate (DPhil) from the College of Oxford. He additionally accomplished an LLM in European Authorized Research at Durham College and undergraduate legislation research in Germany and Austria. At Lund College, he was the director of the grasp’s programme in European Enterprise Regulation and taught programs on competitors and varied areas of EU legislation. Julian additionally taught EU legislation and competitors legislation at Oxford and gave lectures and seminars on EU legislation, comparative legislation, and competitors legislation in varied European, Asian, and Latin American universities and establishments.

Julian is a professional lawyer in Germany, with skilled coaching that targeted on competitors legislation. He accomplished placements on the German Competitors Authority’s worldwide co-operation unit, the European Fee (DG Comp, cartels unit), and Allen & Overy’s German Antitrust unit in Hamburg.
