A medical agency’s plan to revolutionise contraception by heating up males’s testicles has flopped after backers price GBP 1 million pulled out.
Inventors Niklas Grohs and Rolf Tobisch say their ‘Cocoon’ gadget heats up males’s testes to 41.4 levels Celsius earlier than intercourse, paralysing their sperm.
The pair launched their weird gadget on Germany’s model of TV’s ‘Dragons’ Den’ (‘Die Hoehle der Loewen’; ‘The Lions’ Den’ in English) to the baffled reactions of potential traders.
Photographs of the prototype make it seem like some form of eye-watering torture gadget.
Two egg-shaped clamps held along with nuts and bolts seem to include heating parts like an electrical sandwich toaster.
Once they’re mounted across the wearer’s testes and plugged into the mains, a present heats them up apparently immobilising the person’s sperm for a number of weeks.
The inventors billed it as “a worldwide sensation for the contraceptive market” and say human trials on 4 topics have had a 100 per cent success fee.
They informed the present, they wanted EUR 1.2 million to see them by means of medical trials and improvement that would take almost three years earlier than it reaches the outlets.
However all 4 Dragons turned down the prospect to safe a 25 per cent stake within the enterprise.
Grohs stated after the present: “I discovered the suggestions so genuine, I didn’t count on that.
“For us, that doesn’t imply that we cease now. Quite the opposite, it reasonably encourages me!”
