Ogun customs seize N117m illicit medicine

The Ogun Space 1 Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted a large haul of illicit medicine, together with hashish sativa and Tramaking tablets, with a complete Responsibility Paid Worth of N117,587,405.

The Controller of the Ogun Space 1 Command, Comptroller James Ojo, revealed this throughout a media briefing on Friday whereas handing over the contraband to the Nationwide Drug Regulation Enforcement Company.

He described the alarming rise in drug smuggling as worrisome and a big menace to nationwide safety.

“The size of illicit drug smuggling in latest instances is alarming and worrisome,” Ojo lamented.

The seizures, made throughout numerous strategic places in Ogun State, underscore the severity of drug trafficking inside Nigeria’s borders, he famous.

Hashish Sativa (5,256 coconut-size wraps): Valued at N46,981,742.

Hashish Sativa (46 book-size wraps): Valued at N411,179.

Hashish Sativa (1,202 bread-size wraps): Valued at N10,744,302.

Hashish Sativa (403 sacks): Valued at N16,010,182.

In complete, the seized gadgets comprised 403 sacks and 6,504 parcels of hashish sativa weighing 7,217.7 kg, alongside 362 packs of Tramaking tablets (225mg every), intercepted at hotspots such because the Agbawo/Iganokoto space in Yewa North and Imeko Afon Native Authorities Areas.

Curbing Smuggling

Ojo highlighted the Ogun Space 1 Command’s unwavering dedication to combating drug smuggling, noting that between January and November 21, 2024, operatives efficiently intercepted substantial portions of unlawful substances by credible intelligence and strategic operations.

“As an example, between October 13 and November 12, 2024, our operatives intercepted a complete of 1,373 parcels of hashish sativa (weighing 1,337 kg) and 362 packs of Tramaking tablets (225mg every) deserted at numerous places, together with the Abeokuta axis, Agbawo/Iganokoto, and the Imeko Afon axis,” Ojo detailed.

Commending his officers for his or her vigilance and bravado, Ojo issued a stern warning to these concerned in drug trafficking and smuggling, urging them to desist or face the complete pressure of the regulation.

NDLEA Collaboration

Receiving the intercepted contraband, Commander of the NDLEA Idiroko Particular Command, Olusegun Adeyeye, praised the Customs Command for its relentless efforts within the combat towards drug trafficking.

“This seizure is a testomony to the synergy between the NDLEA and Customs in combating the menace of drug abuse and smuggling,” Adeyeye acknowledged, emphasising the significance of collaboration in defending Nigeria’s youth, households, and communities.
