Ebonyi gov threatens to sack Striking employees

Lower than 24 hours into the continuing strike motion embarked upon by employees in some states over the non-implementation of the brand new nationwide minimal wage, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has threatened to interchange any employee who fails to return to work.

On Sunday, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ebonyi State, Prof. Oguguo Egwu, expressed displeasure over the perceived lackadaisical perspective of the governor in direction of the plight of employees, describing the situation of civil servants within the state as worrisome.

Nwifuru, talking throughout a reside broadcast at his workplace in Authorities Home, Centenary Metropolis, Abakaliki, on Monday, warned that salaries can be withheld, and hanging employees would get replaced in the event that they didn’t report back to work inside the subsequent 72 hours.

The visibly indignant governor criticised the continuing strike and the management of the NLC within the state, sustaining that he had fulfilled his obligations to the employees.

He mentioned, “For those who don’t go to work, not solely that I can’t pay you a wage, I’ll substitute you inside 72  hours in your workplace.

“If I don’t see you in your workplace. So far as I’m not responsible. I’m not owing you. I’m paying you what is meant to be paid. And in response to the settlement and structure, I’m not owing you. For those who don’t go to work inside 72 hours I’ll substitute you. I’ve referred to as the chairman of the Civil Service Fee.

“I’ve directed all of the commissioners to go to their workplaces. All of the companies and all of the departments of presidency have to be of their workplace and file the folks that come to work.

“These are the individuals I’ll pay by desk cost by the variety of days you attend to your obligation in your workplace. For those who don’t wish to come to work. You’ll neglect about state authorities.”
