Police affirm 9 useless in Jigawa communal conflict

The Jigawa State Police Command on Saturday confirmed {that a} communal conflict within the state on Friday has left 9 folks useless and 4 others injured.

PUNCH On-line earlier reported {that a} communal conflict, on Friday, within the Miga Native Authorities Space of the state claimed dozens of lives and left many hospitalised.

Based on eyewitnesses, the clashes erupted immediately, catching many off guard.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in an announcement, confirmed that the incident occurred between some communities within the Jahun Native Authorities Space, stating that scores of individuals have been certainly reported useless, with some nonetheless receiving remedy within the hospital.

He stated, “On 03/01/2025, data from Gululu village in Miga LGA indicated {that a} group of miscreants suspected to be Fulani broke into a store and stole a amount of hibiscus and different provisions.

“A crew of villagers (Hausawa) traced their footprints to a Fulani Settlement Camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.

“On sighting the crew, the Fulanis began taking pictures the villagers with bows and arrows, in consequence, 4 individuals have been critically injured because the villagers mobilised and began attacking the Fulanis and setting their homes ablaze at varied places inside Miga and Jahun LGAs.”

Adam added that, upon receipt of the report, a crew of cops from the Miga and Jahun Divisions rushed to the scene to evaluate the scenario and restore peace and order.

He confirmed that sadly, “9 our bodies have been recovered. The corpses have been ferried to Jahun and Miga Hospitals, the place the medical physician on obligation confirmed their deaths.”

It was learnt that the state Commissioner of Police, A.T Abdullahi, alongside the Space Commander of Dutse, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Division of Operations, the Cell Policeman Commander EOD, and different senior officers have visited the scene of the crime.

He added that the assembly was centred on sustaining regulation and order and avoiding violence, propaganda, and reprisal assaults.
