“Symphony”
Yola is a singer/songwriter and actress. She launched her solo debut album in 2019, which was nominated for 4 Grammys, together with Finest New Artist and Finest Americana Album, and Rolling Stone named it among the best nation albums of the 12 months. However the factor is, Yola’s music profession wasn’t new, and her background wasn’t in nation music. She’s from Bristol within the UK, and beginning again within the early 2000s, she was a vocalist recording tracks for DJs and digital music producers. And so, in January 2025, Yola put out an EP referred to as My Method. And as you’ll hear her clarify on this episode, a whole lot of her new music is motivated by wanting to claim her id past the Americana and nation music boundaries. Along with her music, she’s additionally appearing – she performed Sister Rosetta Tharpe within the 2022 movie Elvis, and he or she starred on Broadway within the musical Hadestown. For this episode, I talked to Yola about her tune “Symphony,” together with co-writer and co-producer Sean Douglas. Yola and Sean hint the journey of the tune “Symphony,” and, together with it, Yola traces her personal journey, too.
