The 1 Division Nigerian Military, Kaduna, on Saturday, held a regimental funeral ceremony to honour its late mascot, Sgt. Dalet Akawala, who died on January 24, 2025.
The solemn occasion passed off on the Division Headquarters Complicated in Kawo, Kaduna, and was presided over by the Deputy Chief of Employees, Administration, Colonel I.A. Akabike.
Akabike represented the Basic Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Military and Commander Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma, Main Basic Mayirenso Saraso.
In his remarks, Akabike paid tribute to the late mascot, describing it as a significant a part of the Division’s traditions and heritage.
In an announcement issued on Sunday in Kaduna, the Appearing Deputy Director of Military Public Relations, Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya, expressed the Nigerian Military’s sense of loss.
“The Nigerian Military mourns the lack of Sgt. Dalet Danfari Akawala, who was a loyal and devoted member of the Division.
“Late Sgt. Dalet Danfari Akawala served the Division with loyalty and dedication, embodying the spirit of braveness and resilience. Immediately’s ceremony is our method of paying the final respect to a companion who introduced pleasure and identification to the Division,” the assertion learn.
The ceremony attracted senior officers, troopers, their households, and different personnel.
Prayers for the repose of the late mascot’s soul had been led by the Appearing Deputy Director Chaplain Providers (Protestant), Lt Col Ugwu.
Akawala had a wealthy legacy, descending straight from the Division’s pioneer mascot, Sgt. Farin Doki, who served from 1995 till its demise in 2011.
After Doki’s passing, its successor, Akawala, served till 2014.
On January 1, 2015, Sgt. Dalet, the foal of Sgt. Danfari Akawala, took over because the Division’s mascot, faithfully serving till its demise.
The regimental funeral, the assertion famous, underscored the Nigerian Military’s dedication to honouring its fallen heroes, together with mascots that embody its traditions.
Full army honours had been accorded to the late Sgt. Akawala, reflecting its distinguished service to the Division.
