S’West dental consultants start indefinite strike

The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Affiliation of Nigeria in South-West Zone, on Monday, declared indefinite withdrawal of companies by scientific lecturers within the universities throughout the area over non-payment of the Consolidated Medical Wage Construction.

MDCAN, in an announcement collectively signed by its Chairman, AbdulKareem Salawu and Secretary, Omotola Obajolowo, respectively, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, stated the choice was reached following the expiration of 21 days ultimatum on February 2.

It stated, “The affiliation agreed on the economic motion, having reviewed the expiration of an earlier ultimatum issued on January 13.

“The ultimatum demanded the fee of CONMESS to scientific lecturers within the area, and failure to conform would result in industrial motion.

“Regardless of the ultimatum, no progress had been made, and the disparity in fee between scientific lecturers within the area remained unaddressed to what was obtainable in different geopolitical zones.

“We resolved to begin an indefinite withdrawal of companies efficient February 3 till the total implementation of the CONMESS wage construction for scientific lecturers within the area.”

The affiliation urged related authorities to urgently name on the Vice-Chancellors of those universities to deal with the difficulty to forestall a chronic disruption in medical training and healthcare supply.

It emphasised the necessity for equity and fairness within the remuneration of scientific lecturers nationwide.
