Gunmen Kidnap FRSC officer in Benue

On the evening of Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., Inspector Nathaniel Kumashe of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was abducted by armed assailants at his residence in Tse Aboh, Uchi-Mbakor, Tarka Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.

Inspector Kumashe, who is assigned to the FRSC unit in Wannune, Tarka LGA, had just returned from a wake-keep for his late cousin when the incident occurred. The kidnappers reportedly fired gunshots to disperse family members and neighbors before forcibly taking him away.

In response to the abduction, local youths initiated an immediate search throughout the night, but the perpetrators had already fled with the victim. There are indications that Inspector Kumashe may have been moved to a hideout in the neighboring Guma LGA.

The Benue State FRSC Command’s spokesperson, SRC Ngozi Ahula, confirmed the abduction and stated that the matter has been reported to the police. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, and the whereabouts of Inspector Kumashe remain unknown.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Benue State, where abductions and violent crimes continue to pose significant threats to residents and officials alike.
