Boxing Legend George Foreman Dies at 76
Boxing icon George Foreman has passed away at 76, his family confirmed Friday.
Known as “Big George,” Foreman was a two-time heavyweight champion and one of the sport’s most influential figures.
His rise to fame began in 1968 when he won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
Soon after, he turned professional, quickly making a name for himself. In 1973, Foreman dominated then-undefeated champion Joe Frazier, securing his first heavyweight title.
The following year, Foreman faced Muhammad Ali in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire.
Ali’s strategic “rope-a-dope” tactic led to an eighth-round TKO victory, handing Foreman his first professional defeat. Despite the loss, the two would later become close friends, with Foreman calling Ali his “best friend” after his passing in 2016.
Foreman retired from boxing in 1977 and became an ordained minister, dedicating his life to preaching in Houston.
However, in 1988, nearly a decade later, he made a stunning comeback to the ring at almost 40 years old, defying expectations once again.
