Policeman Goes on Shooting Spree, Kills Four in Cross River
Chaos erupted in the Atakpa area near the bustling Watt Market in Calabar South, Cross River State, on Sunday, March 23, after a police officer allegedly opened fire, killing four innocent passersby.
Eyewitnesses reported that the officer went on a rampage, firing multiple gunshots into the air. Tragically, stray bullets struck and instantly killed four bystanders.
“The victims were innocent passersby who had no altercation with the officer. It seemed like he ran amok,” an eyewitness recounted.
Police Confirm Incident, Suspect Mental Breakdown
The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the shooting, with Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo stating that the officer may have suffered a mental breakdown.
“The officer misbehaved. We suspect he has become mentally unstable. This is our initial assessment,” Ugbo said.
She assured the public that the Command is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Authorities have yet to disclose further details about the officer’s identity or possible motives.
