Karen Read Documentarian Not Covering Her Retrial
Karen Read Documentary Won’t Cover Retrial, Director Confirms
The new documentary series “A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read” has captivated audiences with an inside look at her first trial and retrial preparations in the death of Boston police officer John O’Keefe. However, TMZ has learned that cameras won’t be rolling for her upcoming retrial.
Director Terry Dunn-Meurer told TMZ that while Karen Read was eager to share her story, they believe the documentary has already captured it thoroughly. “While the second trial will introduce new evidence and fresh faces, the essence of Karen’s story remains the same. Therefore, we currently have no plans to film another documentary covering the same ground,” Dunn-Meurer stated.
Filming with Read ended shortly after her first trial concluded last summer, with some follow-ups in August—but none featuring Karen herself.
The five-part docuseries, released on March 17, has already amassed 6.3 million viewers. It provides an in-depth look at Read’s case, including interviews from inside her Mansfield, Massachusetts home, where she has consistently maintained her innocence, arguing the allegations don’t add up.
Prosecutors claim Read had a drunken fight with O’Keefe in 2022, struck him with her SUV, and left him to die in the snow outside a friend’s home. However, her defense team insists she was framed, alleging O’Keefe was actually attacked by fellow officers, who then pinned the crime on her.
Read’s first trial ended in a mistrial, with jurors ready to acquit her of second-degree murder and fleeing the scene, but deadlocked 9-3 in favor of convicting her on vehicular manslaughter.
All episodes of “A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read” are currently streaming on Max and Discovery+.
