Rivers Head of Service Resigns as Sole Administrator Appoints New SSG

Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, has resigned from his position. His resignation, which comes amid the ongoing political crisis in the state, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), on Tuesday morning.

The statement expressed the administrator’s appreciation for Nwaeke’s contributions during his brief tenure and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.

“The office of His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, is saddened to announce the resignation of the Head of Service, Rivers State, Dr. George Nwaeke. His Excellency appreciates his immense contributions to this administration in the short period he served and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” the statement read.

In a related development, the Sole Administrator has appointed Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG). His appointment was also confirmed in a separate statement from the administrator’s office.

“His Excellency, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.) CFR, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG). His appointment follows careful consideration of his credentials, extensive experience, and performance during a rigorous selection process,” the statement read.

The statement highlighted Worika’s distinguished career in academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles, emphasizing that his expertise will be instrumental in advancing the state’s governance objectives.

The appointment of Prof. Worika is seen as part of ongoing administrative restructuring under the leadership of the Sole Administrator, following the political tension surrounding the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
