Delta Nursing Student Faces Disciplinary Action Over TikTok Post on First Lady

The management of Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, has initiated disciplinary action against a student nurse, Osato Edobor, for allegedly posting a song critical of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on TikTok.

The controversy arose after students of the nursing school reportedly rejected a song introduced by the event’s Master of Ceremony (MC), which referred to the First Lady as the “mother of the nation.”

The students openly disagreed, asserting that Mrs. Tinubu was the MC’s mother, not theirs or the country’s.

The First Lady had visited the school on March 25 as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme, during which she distributed 10,000 professional kits—including Crocs and scrubs—to midwives across Nigeria’s South-South region.

In a letter dated March 27 and signed by the school’s Provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, Edobor was accused of engaging in a “malicious act” by recording and posting an “unofficial response” to the song on her TikTok page.

The school cited the student handbook, stating that her actions constituted a punishable offense under the institution’s disciplinary regulations.

The letter directed Edobor to submit a written explanation in triplicate within 24 hours, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.

The incident has sparked debates about freedom of expression and student discipline, with critics questioning whether the school’s response is appropriate.
