Liam Lawson Breaks Silence After Brutal Red Bull Demotion
Liam Lawson has spoken out for the first time since Red Bull axed him, sharing an emotional message and childhood photos reflecting on his lifelong dream of racing in Formula One.
The 23-year-old New Zealander was abruptly demoted to Red Bull’s junior team, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, after just two races in his dream seat, with Yuki Tsunoda taking his place. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko likened Lawson’s situation to a “downed boxer,” while sources at the team claim even Max Verstappen is unhappy with the decision.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lawson expressed his disappointment but also gratitude for his journey.
“Being a Red Bull Racing driver has been my dream since I was a kid—it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life. It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To everyone who’s stood by me, thank you for your support—it means the world.”
Despite the setback, Lawson remains optimistic about his new role with Racing Bulls, calling it “one of my favorite places” and vowing to make the most of his opportunity alongside teammate Isack Hadjar.
Lawson’s demotion marks one of the shortest stints for a Red Bull driver in F1 history—outside of illness or injury. However, his new team still offers him a chance to prove himself and compete for points in the season ahead.
