Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has issued a firm directive banning any planned event or gathering in the state to host the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

During a security press briefing on Friday, March 28, Diri raised concerns over a planned event organized by George Turner, a known ally of Wike.

The governor accused Turner of attempting to disrupt the state’s peace by planning to hold the event at Tombia Roundabout in Yenagoa.

“Persons from this state, particularly one George Turner, are threatening the peace of Bayelsa,” Diri stated. “Recently, a Facebook post with his contact details announced plans to host the Minister of the FCT in Bayelsa. Let me make this clear—this is not the FCT, and Wike is not from Bayelsa. That meeting must not take place in this state.”

The governor instructed security agencies and service commanders to be on high alert to prevent the gathering. He also reinforced that no public space, including schools, should be used for such gatherings without explicit approval from the state government.

Diri and Wike have had a long-standing political rivalry, and this latest move further underscores the tension between the two political figures.
